A Root Canal is required when the nerve of a tooth dies and decay infects the area.
Treatment includes cleaning out and disinfecting the canals that are inside the tooth. After the tooth is deemed stable, a seal made of a rubber-like material is placed inside where the root was, and sealed with a filling on the outside to ensure no bacteria can penetrate the tooth.
A Root Canal usually takes over 3 visits, spaced out over a period of a few months, before the treatment is finalised.
A filling or crown is often recommended after a root canal to support and strengthen the tooth. Your friendly dentist will provide you with the best plan for your treatment.
