Cracked tooth

Most commonly, cracked teeth are found at the back of the mouth however they can also affect front teeth if there has been an unexpected injury or break. The reasons for this include:

  • Restored teeth. Where there are extensive fillings or multiple restorations, the tooth can become compromised and weakened.
  • Bad habits such as eating hard candies, ice or even chewing pens.
  • Clenching the teeth together or grinding, which often happens when you are asleep.
  • Trauma to that tooth or area in the mouth. This usually occurs during contact sports and from not wearing a mouthguard.
